NEW DELHI, November 5, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian women’s cricket team at his official residence on Wednesday, congratulating the players for their World Cup victory and praising their resilience in overcoming early setbacks during the tournament. The meeting followed India’s successful campaign at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, where the team rebounded after three consecutive defeats in the group stage to clinch the title. During the interaction, the PM Modi personally met all team members and support staff. He lauded their collective effort, noting that their achievement reflected the growing strength and consistency of Indian women’s cricket on the international stage. Modi emphasized that their ability to recover from a challenging start and perform under pressure demonstrated the evolving competitiveness of India’s women athletes. Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the delegation that met the Prime Minister. Kaur presented Modi with a team-signed cricket bat, symbolizing the squad’s gratitude for the government’s continued encouragement of women’s sports.

The players also shared highlights from their World Cup campaign and reflected on key moments that defined their turnaround performance. India’s World Cup victory marked the country’s first title in the women’s competition since 2017. The team’s late surge through the tournament, including a decisive semifinal win against defending champions Australia and a clinical performance in the final, was widely praised across India’s sporting community. The win has been viewed as a milestone for women’s cricket, solidifying India’s position among the leading nations in the sport. The Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of both experienced players and emerging talents whose consistent performances had shaped the team’s success.

Photographs released by the Prime Minister’s Office showed Modi interacting warmly with team members and posing with the World Cup trophy. The event highlighted India’s growing investment in women’s sports, which has seen increased infrastructure development and funding across multiple disciplines in recent years.

The Indian women’s cricket team’s World Cup triumph has triggered widespread celebration across the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced plans to honor the players and coaching staff for their achievement. Several state governments have also indicated they will host receptions to recognize the players’ contributions to Indian sport. The victory adds to India’s expanding record in international cricket and reinforces the growing influence of women’s cricket globally. With the win, India joins a select group of nations that have captured both men’s and women’s world titles in the sport.
