India beats Pakistan for third time in three weeks in Asia Cup

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a tense final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, securing their ninth Asia Cup title and completing a clean sweep over their archrivals in the tournament. The victory, India’s third over Pakistan in as many weeks, highlighted the growing gulf between the two sides and marked a shift in the long-standing cricketing rivalry. Chasing a target of 147, India reached the total in 19.4 overs, led by an unbeaten 69 from Tilak Varma, who anchored the innings after a shaky start.

India beats Pakistan for third time in three weeks in Asia Cup
India crushes Pakistan in Asia Cup final to complete a clean sweep and expose their rivals’ growing decline.

India had slumped to 20 for 3 in the fourth over, but Varma steadied the innings alongside Sanju Samson and later Shivam Dube, whose 33 off 25 balls was crucial in the final overs. The win extended India’s flawless record in successful T20 chases against Pakistan to 9-0. Earlier, Pakistan had posted 146 after electing to bat. They were well-positioned at 113 for 1 in the 13th over before collapsing dramatically to be all out for 146 in 18.5 overs.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 4 for 30, while Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah contributed with two wickets each. Pakistan lost nine wickets for just 33 runs, unable to counter India’s disciplined attack. India’s dominance over Pakistan in the Asia Cup was evident throughout the tournament. In the group stage, India secured a 41-run victory, followed by a more commanding eight-wicket win in the Super Four match. Sunday’s final confirmed a third consecutive win, marking the first time India has defeated Pakistan three times in a single edition of the tournament.

Across all formats in recent years, Pakistan has failed to register a win against India, and Sunday’s result extended their losing streak in high-stakes matches. The victory reinforced India’s status as the top-ranked team in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings. With consistent performances from both experienced and emerging players, India has maintained a clear edge in regional and international competitions. In contrast, Pakistan’s recent record reflects a series of underwhelming results, including early exits from multi-nation tournaments and defeats in bilateral contests.

India completes Asia Cup sweep over Pakistan with final win

The Asia Cup final underscored the widening performance gap, as India executed plans across departments while Pakistan faltered under pressure. India’s ninth Asia Cup title includes seven in the ODI format and two in T20s, further establishing their dominance in Asian cricket. The team’s ability to recover from early setbacks in the final, coupled with clinical bowling performances, illustrated the depth and composure that have come to define their approach in recent years.

The match concluded in controversy when India did not participate in the official trophy presentation conducted by Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The trophy was not formally handed over, although individual awards were accepted. The Indian cricket board later confirmed that it would address the issue at the upcoming International Cricket Council meeting. Despite the post-match issues, the on-field result left little doubt about India’s supremacy. With this latest victory, India extended its winning streak over Pakistan and reaffirmed its position as the leading force in Asian cricket.

Pakistan loses third match to India in three weeks

The once-celebrated rivalry has shifted to a one-sided narrative, with India consistently outperforming Pakistan in recent contests. India’s supremacy over Pakistan in recent years has been comprehensive and consistent across formats. Since 2017, Pakistan has failed to win a single match against India in ICC or Asia Cup tournaments. In T20 Internationals, India holds a dominant head-to-head advantage, having won 9 of the last 10 encounters.

In ODI clashes, India has also maintained an upper hand, including a resounding victory in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and a commanding performance in the 2023 Asia Cup Super Four stage. Across both white-ball formats, India has outclassed Pakistan with superior depth, tactical execution, and individual match-winners. The pattern of results reflects a clear decline in competitiveness from Pakistan, with India establishing itself as the preeminent cricketing power in the region. – By Content Syndication Services.
